NDA exam has its levels. First, you need to crack the written examination, then the SSB interview and medical test. The written examination requires a conceptual and practical approach to the knowledge but the SSB interview is one of the toughest interviews in the nation. Before learning preparation tips for SSB Indian Army Interview, we must understand the SSB interview procedure.
SSB stands for Service Selection Board and is an organization that interviews to assess the NDA aspirants who are likely to become a part of the Indian Armed Forces. They have their standardized protocol of evaluation system.
There are a total of 13 SSBs across India. Out of these thirteen, four are for the Indian Army, four are for the Indian Air Force, and five are for the Indian Navy.
The SSB interview takes place for four to five days. They conduct various tests to examine your mental approach to situations, lifestyle, and working nature. SSB Indian Army interviews follow a unique pattern and procedure that reflects the actual personality and physiology of the candidates.
During the interview, they examine OLQs. It stands for Officer Like qualities and plays a crucial role in SSB interviews.
Every test that you go through reflects a quality. It can be leadership quality, teammate, honesty, etc. They see whether you are capable of joining the Indian Armed forces or not.
On the first day, you go through the screening test. This test consists of an OIR (Officers Intelligence Rating) test and PPDT (Picture Perception and Description Test).
In the former test, you get 50 questions based on Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal & Non-verbal Reasoning. You get 30 minutes to solve the questions.
In the PPDT test, you will see a static picture on the screen/projector for 30 seconds. You have to analyze the picture and frame a story depending on your thoughts and perception.
The second day of the SSB Indian Army Interview calls for psychological testing. In this, you will go through three stages.
Let's check them one by one.
TAT (Thematic Appreciation Test)- In this test, the candidates will see 11 blurry pictures on the screen or projector sequentially and have to write a story with a positive attitude. The 12th picture will be blank, and the candidate needs to write a Self-Description on the same.
WAT (Word Association Test) -. The candidates will see 50-60 words on screen consecutively and have to associate these words with some positive events.
SRT (Situation Reaction Test) - SRT takes place after WAT. You will have 10 minutes to answer the questions. There are 60 questions in the subjective form.
Various tasks like Group Discussion, Group Planning Exercise, Progressive Group Task, Group Obstacle Race, Half Group Task, Lecturette, Individual Obstacles, and Command Task takes place on the third and fourth day of SSB Indian Army Interview.
The candidates appear for the conference for verification by the panel. After this, the results are announced.
From the tasks mentioned above, one thing is pretty clear you have to work on physiological and mental ability. The interviewer understands and gives you fair benefit for shortcomings or mistakes you may have committed. Thus, do not try and hide anything. These officers are smart and catch you lying or making false statements.
A good reader is better at thinking and responding. Read the newspaper daily to be aware of your surroundings. The questions might be about the current affair or nearby incident. It's better to stay updated.
There is a complete test series to examine your psychology abilities. There is a book 'My appointment with physiologists', which helps understand the core of the Psychology test. Read this book multiple times. You should practice writing a story by analyzing pictures.
Story narration is a part of the screening test. It's not easy to frame a positive story just by seeing a picture. But you can nail this art just by practicing story narration. It will boost your confidence and will bring clarity of thoughts. Make sure to maintain a good body posture, eye contact, and facial expressions while narrating a story.
Maintaining your physical health is as vital as mental health. Include physical exercises and healthy food in your routine. Go for a morning or evening jog and meditate.
As you are likely to become a part of the Indian Armed forces, it's vital to have in-depth knowledge on topics like Indian Politics, History of India, India and its current affairs, Armed Forces in India, etc.
Your words are your power. A good orator catches its audience. If you have good oratory skills, you are likely to perform better in GTO tasks. You have to be confident while putting your opinion, and your way of speaking should emphasize your thoughts.
Be opportunist
Must dress smartly and be enthusiastic.
Must remain happy and calm and respond politely to the interviewer's welcome remark.
Maintain eye contact and be confident.
Prepare well for general knowledge as a lot of questions are asked about the current affair.
Be truthful and answer each question with honesty.
Don't be nervous, relax and enjoy the interview.
